Darts Legends Anderson and Wright to Represent Scotland at 2024 World Cup
Veteran Scottish darts stars Gary Anderson and Peter Wright will once again join forces to represent their country at the upcoming 2024 World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt, Germany. This marks the seventh time the former world champions have teamed up for the prestigious international tournament.
Anderson and Wright have a storied history of success at the Nations event, reaching the final on four occasions. While they came up short in 2015, 2018, and 2023, the duo clinched the World Cup title in 2019. Incidentally, Wright also won the tournament in 2021, but with John Henderson as Scotland’s second player.
After opting out of the event from 2020 to 2022, Anderson made a strong comeback last year, securing a place in the final. This year’s revamped pairing format will see the Scottish legends face off against world champion Luke Humphries and former world champion Michael Smith, who comprise the England team.
“We play well together,” Anderson affirmed. “It’s a hard game the pairs. Wales have a cracking team and you’re going to have to look at England. Holland will be Michael van Gerwen and Danny Noppert. That’s another good team.”
Despite some recent television disappointments, the two-time world champion remains determined to silence his critics. “The old boy can still play. When they all wind me up, I’m going to do my damndest to prove them all wrong,” Anderson declared.
With the Scotland duo’s unparalleled experience and camaraderie, darts enthusiasts can expect an exciting showdown at the 2024 World Cup of Darts. As Anderson put it, “If we’re still playing darts, we’ll be in it for the next ten years. Peter says he’ll retire, but he won’t, it’s in his blood.”
