The Netherlands and Wales Secure Seeded Status for World Cup of Darts
In the upcoming World Cup of Darts, the Netherlands and Wales have already secured their seeded status, joining England and Scotland as the top four nations. While the exact order of the seeded countries is not yet fully determined, England is set to lead the seeding list, boasting the world’s top two players, Michael Smith and Luke Humphries.
Scotland, led by the seventh-ranked Peter Wright and 21st-ranked Gary Anderson, will be the fourth-seeded nation. The Netherlands, currently ranked second on the rankings, features world number three Michael van Gerwen and 12th-ranked Danny Noppert. Wales, on the other hand, is ranked 16th, with Gerwyn Price holding the sixth spot on the PDC Order of Merit and Jonny Clayton at 10th.
The cutoff for the World Cup of Darts seeding is set for Monday, May 27, and one more ranking tournament, the Dutch Darts Championship in Rosmalen from May 24 to 26, will be played before the final rankings are determined.
To overtake the Netherlands for the second-seeded spot, Wales needs to make up two more positions in the world rankings. This could potentially happen if Gerwyn Price wins the Dutch Darts Championship, as he would then trade the sixth spot for the fourth spot on the PDC Order of Merit. Additionally, Jonny Clayton has four players within reach who he could overtake for a higher ranking.
The defending champions of the World Cup of Darts are the Welsh duo of Price and Clayton, who will look to retain their title in the next edition scheduled for June 27-30 in Frankfurt. Meanwhile, Danny Noppert and Michael van Gerwen have previously played together at the 2020 World Cup of Darts.
