Manchester Triumph: Teenage Sensation Luke Littler Soars to the Top of Premier League Darts
Manchester, UK – April 6, 2024 (PDC News) – Teenage darts prodigy Luke Littler continued his meteoric rise, securing back-to-back nightly victories in the BetMGM Premier League with a thrilling 6-3 triumph over Gerwyn Price in Manchester on Thursday.
The 17-year-old’s latest victory not only showcased his exceptional talent but also propelled him to the top of the Premier League standings for the first time. Littler’s journey to the final was paved with impressive wins, including a dominant 6-3 victory over a struggling Michael van Gerwen.
In the final, Littler refused to be overshadowed by Price’s breathtaking nine-darter in the semi-finals. The youngster nearly replicated the feat, starting the final leg with six perfect darts. Maintaining his momentum, Littler averaged a stellar 100.48 to claim his second title on the bounce, extending his winning streak to six matches.
“The atmosphere was amazing, and I’m just really glad I won,” Littler told the PDC, still relishing his dream debut season. “I’ve definitely settled into the Premier League now, and winning last week gave me so much confidence coming into tonight.”
Despite falling short in the final, Price had a tremendous night, defeating both Peter Wright and Michael Smith with high averages and showcasing glimpses of his past brilliance as the “Iceman.” Smith also secured a crucial win against world number one Luke Humphries, while Nathan Aspinall continued his impressive form, claiming victory over Rob Cross and moving into third place.
The BetMGM Premier League Darts excitement continues next week in Birmingham, where Littler will face Cross, Humphries eyes redemption against Wright, Price and Smith renew their rivalry, and Aspinall clashes with Van Gerwen in a battle for play-off contention.
