Darts Showdown: Nathan Aspinall and Luke Humphries Face Off Again in Premier League
In a captivating turn of events, Nathan Aspinall scored a surprise victory over Luke Humphries in the semifinals last week during the 12th round of Premier League Darts play in Rotterdam. The two Englishmen now prepare to renew their rivalry, as they go head-to-head once more in the opening match on Thursday night in Liverpool.
During a recent episode of the Love The Darts podcast, Aspinall expressed his admiration for the reigning world champion, Humphries.
“Standard-wise, Humphries is the best player in the world by a million miles. When he brings his A-game, we can’t beat him,” Aspinall acknowledged.
However, Aspinall went on to explain the difference in their performances.
“He has been producing numbers that are obscene. I don’t even do that in a practice room, let alone on the stage. I beat him last week and can hopefully count on that experience and get another result, but he is definitely the best player out there at the moment.”
The upcoming clash holds significant implications, as Aspinall desperately needs the points in the battle for qualification for the playoffs. The race for the four qualifying spots is tight, with Luke Humphries and Luke Littler currently leading the league standings with 26 points each. Nathan Aspinall sits in third place with 23 points, followed by Michael van Gerwen in fourth with 22 points, and Michael Smith in fifth with 20 points.
For Gerwyn Price (12 points), Rob Cross (11 points), and Peter Wright (4 points), the path to the playoffs appears increasingly challenging.
