Darts Stars Noppert and Van Gerwen to Represent Netherlands at 2024 World Cup
In the lead-up to the highly anticipated 2024 World Cup of Darts, scheduled for June 27-30 in Frankfurt, the Netherlands has secured its star-studded duo of Danny Noppert and Michael van Gerwen to compete on the national team.
As the world’s number three and number twelve players respectively on the PDC Order of Merit, Noppert and Van Gerwen will join forces to represent the Netherlands in the country-based tournament. With one tournament left before the qualifying cutoff, Noppert has cemented his spot on the Dutch squad, having outpaced his compatriot Dirk van Duijvenbode.
The Upcoming World Cup of Darts
The upcoming World Cup of Darts will see the top four ranked nations – England, the Netherlands, Wales, and Scotland – enter the competition directly from the group stage. The Netherlands and Wales are poised for a showdown to determine which country will be seeded second and third.
Van Gerwen’s Return to the World Cup
Van Gerwen, who last competed for the Netherlands in the 2021 edition, will be making his return to the World Cup. The Vlijmen native was unable to participate in 2022 due to an injury and had undergone dental surgery in 2023, but is now fully recovered and ready to reclaim glory for the Dutch squad.
“The Netherlands’ last World Cup triumph dates back to 2018, when Van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld secured the country’s fourth title.”
England, with four World Cup wins, and Wales, who claimed their inaugural title in 2020, will be among the top contenders vying for the coveted trophy.
As the 2024 World Cup of Darts approaches, Darts enthusiasts eagerly await the showdown between the sport’s elite, including Noppert, Van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price, and Jonny Clayton, as they battle for national pride and the prestigious title.
