Darts Legend Max Hopp Etches Name in German Darts History
In the annals of German darts, the name Max Hopp stands tall as a pioneer. The young prodigy, who made his World Darts Championship debut at just 16 years old in 2013, has etched his name in the country’s darting legacy.
Over the years, Hopp has amassed an impressive eight World Championship appearances, the last of which came in 2021. However, it has been some time since the ‘The Maximiser‘ last held a PDC Tour Card, with his last stage match dating back to 2022 at the German Darts Grand Prix.
Hopp’s Historic German Darts Open Victory
Hopp’s crowning achievement came in 2018, when he became the first German player to win a European Tour event, clinching the German Darts Open. The journey to this historic victory was nothing short of remarkable. Hopp began the tournament with a dominant 6-1 win over Zoran Lerchbacher, before dispatching the formidable Peter Wright 6-4. He then secured a spot in the last eight by defeating Benito van de Pas 6-4, before overcoming ‘The Rockstar‘ Joe Cullen 6-4 to reach the semi-finals.

Since Hopp’s landmark triumph, the ranks of successful German darts players have swelled. Ricardo Pietreczko followed in his compatriot’s footsteps by winning the German Darts Championship in 2023, while Martin Schindler emerged victorious at the International Darts Open in 2024.
As for Hopp, he is set to return to the European Tour in 2024, having qualified for the German Darts Championship through the Host Nation Qualifier. Darts enthusiasts eagerly await the next chapter in the story of this German darting legend.
