Darts Enthusiasts Eagerly Await the Return of the Dynamic Duo: Van den Bergh and Huybrechts at the World Cup

Darts fans are in for a treat as the Belgian powerhouse duo of Dimitri van den Bergh and Kim Huybrechts have been confirmed to represent their country at the prestigious World Cup of Darts. The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has unveiled the final list of participants for the iconic team tournament, and the Belgian duo’s names stand side by side, putting an end to the darting soap opera that had surrounded the composition of the Belgian team.

The Battle for the Second Spot

As the undisputed number one in Belgian darts, Van den Bergh had long been assured of his spot on the team, but the battle for the second spot had been a closely watched affair. The race was between Huybrechts and Mike de Decker, with the latter two even filing complaints against each other, highlighting the underlying tensions within the Belgian camp. However, Huybrechts emerged victorious, securing his place on the team for the seventh consecutive year.

    Huybrechts’ Resilience and Determination

Huybrechts’ journey to the World Cup has been a determined one, as he overcame a double shoulder fracture sustained in a brawl following the Belgian Cup final in May. The resilient “Hurricane” refused to give up his spot and returned to the darts circuit in just four weeks, showcasing his fitness and determination.

Last week, Huybrechts proved his mettle by competing in two Players Championship tournaments and two Euro Tour qualifying events, where he registered two victories and an impressive average of over 100 points. This performance has allayed any doubts about his readiness to compete on the world stage.

    The Dynamic Duo’s Partnership

The Belgian duo’s partnership at the World Cup of Darts has had its fair share of ups and downs. In 2022, their opening match against Finland was marked by a noticeable lack of communication and cooperation, as the two players completely ignored each other. However, a subsequent mediation session helped to mend the rift, and their on-stage cooperation visibly improved, leading them to the semi-finals before bowing out to eventual champions Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton of Wales.

As the seventh year of their partnership approaches, fans will be hoping that Van den Bergh and Huybrechts have put their past differences aside and can harness their formidable talents to make a deep run in this year’s World Cup of Darts. The dynamic duo’s ability to bounce back from adversity and their unwavering commitment to the Belgian cause will undoubtedly make them a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming tournament.
