Darts Star Kim Huybrechts Undergoes Successful Surgery for Collarbone Fracture
In a recent development, renowned Belgian darts player Kim Huybrechts underwent a successful surgery to address a collarbone fracture he sustained last weekend. The 38-year-old athlete was involved in an incident following a soccer match between Antwerp and Union, where he suffered two fractures in his collarbone.
Orthopedic surgeon Nick Jansen, who performed the operation, confirmed that the procedure went well. Huybrechts was allowed to return home a day after the surgery and has already begun his rehabilitation process.
“He needs to move as soon as possible, that shoulder is stabilized. He may come out of the sling and do some small movements,” Jansen stated.
However, the sports doctor emphasized that Huybrechts is not yet permitted to engage in darts practice or competition.
Huybrechts is eager to participate in the upcoming Flanders Darts Trophy qualifying tournament, scheduled to commence in four weeks. While the doctor acknowledged the player’s high motivation, he cautioned that Huybrechts may not be able to perform at his optimal level due to the ongoing recovery process.
“For that, he will still lack the necessary strength in the shoulder and the precision will not yet be as it should be. That is different from a cyclist, who can play sports again after a week, because he has to do the work mainly with his legs,” Jansen explained.
The doctor further stated that if the X-ray examination after six weeks shows satisfactory calcification, they may consider allowing Huybrechts to gradually increase his competitive load. However, the doctor emphasized that optimal performance is unlikely to be achieved within the initial four-week recovery period.
As Huybrechts continues his rehabilitation, darts enthusiasts eagerly await his return to the sport and his potential participation in the Flanders Darts Trophy qualifying tournament in the coming weeks.
