Darts Enthusiasts Captivated by Thrilling European Darts Open
Leverkusen, Germany – March 12, 2024 – Darts fans were treated to a thrilling day of action at the 2024 European Darts Open, with several top players securing their spots in the final day of competition.
Veteran Raymond van Barneveld, 57, from The Hague, delivered a convincing 6-4 victory over reigning world champion Luke Humphries. Doubles proved to be the deciding factor, as Humphries struggled with a finishing percentage of just 22%, while Van Barneveld checked out at a solid 40%.
The match saw a back-and-forth battle, with Humphries fighting his way back into the contest multiple times. However, Van Barneveld’s consistent 14-dart and 13-dart legs ultimately proved too much for the young Englishman, who missed several crucial doubles in the closing stages.
Elsewhere, Belgium’s Dimitri van den Bergh, who had impressed in the opening round, fell 6-3 to Northern Ireland’s Nathan Rafferty. The difference was made early, as Rafferty won the first three legs with a 13-darter and a 14-darter, before sealing the match with a stylish 160 finish.
In another notable result, Scotland’s Peter Wright secured a 6-3 victory over Ritchie Edhouse, boosting his chances of reaching the final day of the European Tour event for only the third time this year.
Additionally, German crowd favorite Martin Schindler progressed to the third round with a 6-4 win over Karel Sedlacek.
