The Standout Performances in the 2024 Premier League Darts
The 2024 Premier League Darts league phase has come to a close, and former major winner Paul Nicholson has provided his insightful analysis of the players’ performances. Topping the table in his Premier League debut, Luke Littler has earned Nicholson’s highest grade of an “A.”
“Some people thought, myself included, that it might be a little early to include The Nuke in this, but boy were some of us very wrong!” – Paul Nicholson
Nicholson believes Littler has done everything he could to impress since the start of February, making him the standout performer.
Joining Littler in the playoffs is fellow debutant Luke Humphries, who Nicholson grades as equally impressive with a “sensational” debut campaign. Humphries has secured four nightly wins, including a recent victory in Leeds, and has solidified his spot in the playoffs with time to spare.
The remaining playoff spots have been claimed by the familiar faces of Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith. While both have made the playoffs, Nicholson admits he expected a little more from them. He believes van Gerwen would grade his campaign as a “less than perfect B,” despite once again putting himself in contention to win.
At the bottom of the standings, two-time world champion Peter Wright has struggled, managing only two wins from 17 games. Nicholson acknowledges the high standard of the Premier League and believes that when players are “minutely off the top, people will squash you.” However, he warns that Wright should not be counted out, as he has “done it to others over the last ten years” and may be motivated to unleash his “venom” on the competition.
This Premier League Darts season has showcased a mix of established stars and rising talents, with Littler and Humphries making a strong impression in their debut campaigns. As the playoffs approach, the competition promises to be fierce as the players vie for the coveted Premier League title.
