Peter Wright’s Struggles Continue as He Suffers 28th Defeat of the Season
Friday night saw Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright suffer his 28th defeat of the season against Mickey Mansell in the first round of the European Darts Grand Prix. The Scot went down 6-5 against the Northern Irishman, marking another disappointing outing for the former world champion.
Last week, Wright also lost 6-5 to Gabriel Clemens in the opening round of the International Darts Open, and his struggles in the Premier League Darts season have been well documented. After 12 nights of play, Wright has managed only two victories, a far cry from his previous success.
According to statistics from Darts Orakel, Wright’s win percentage has declined significantly in recent years. In 2020, when he first became world champion, Wright won 77% of his matches. The following year, his win percentage dropped slightly to 71%. However, in 2022, when Wright became world champion again, his winning percentage fell to 63%. This further declined to 53% in 2023, and so far in 2024, Wright has only won half of his matches.
The former world champion’s current form is a far cry from his previous dominance, and his fans will be hoping that he can turn things around in the coming tournaments.
