Premier League Darts Recap: Aspinall Reigns Supreme in Rotterdam for Second Straight Year
In a thrilling night of Premier League Darts action, Nathan Aspinall has once again proven to be the cream of the crop, clinching the title in Rotterdam for the second consecutive year. The Englishman showcased his dominance, starting the evening with a comfortable 6-2 victory over Peter Wright before securing a 6-4 win over Luke Humphries.
Humphries had earlier sent shockwaves through the tournament by swiftly eliminating Michael van Gerwen 6-4. At the other end of the bracket, Michael Smith made it to the final match after triumphing over Luke Littler (6-3) and Gerwyn Price (6-5).
The final showdown between Aspinall and Smith was a closely contested affair. Aspinall took an early 2-0 lead with two 16-darters, but Smith responded with a 16-darter of his own to halve the deficit. Aspinall then extended his lead to 3-1 with a 72 finish, and moments later, he made it 4-2 with a blistering 13-darter.
“Although Aspinall missed several chances to widen his advantage, Smith kept fighting and managed to pull the score back to 3-4 with a double 9 finish. Undeterred, Aspinall clinched the victory at 5-3, despite Smith’s impressive 170 finish, which only temporarily delayed the inevitable.”
With this triumph, Aspinall has solidified his position in the overall Premier League Darts standings, climbing up to third place with 23 points. Luke Humphries remains the leader, tied with Luke Littler on 26 points, with the former holding the edge due to one more weekly title.
