Veteran Darts Star Peter Wright Contemplates Premier League Future
Peter “Snakebite” Wright, the two-time World Darts Champion, is enduring a difficult campaign in the 2023 Premier League Darts competition. After 15 rounds of play, the 54-year-old Scot finds himself with a mere 2 wins and 15 defeats, leading him to consider his future participation in the prestigious event.
In a recent interview with Oche180, Wright expressed his desire to potentially compete in the Premier League only one more time, stating, > “If I win a major and they select me next year, that will probably be my last Premier League. I’m going to do my best to say goodbye with a win.”
The seasoned Darts veteran acknowledged that the demanding travel schedule and his advancing age are factors in his decision.
Wright remains confident in his ability to regain top form, saying, “Is it the end? No. I believe I can win a major this year, definitely.” However, he is also open to giving the younger generation, such as Joe Cullen and Chris Dobey, their chance to shine in the Premier League.
Should Wright fail to secure a spot in the 2025 Premier League, it would mark the first time since 2013 that he has not competed in the event. This would also break the long-standing tradition of having a Scottish Darts player represented in the Premier League since 2011, with the likes of Gary Anderson and Robert Thornton previously competing.
Despite his current struggles, Wright’s determination and competitive spirit remain undiminished as he seeks to end his Premier League career on a high note, should 2024 indeed be his final appearance in the prestigious competition.
