Darts Enthusiasts Eagerly Anticipate Germany’s Bid for World Cup Glory
As the football world turns its attention to the highly anticipated Euro 2024 tournament, another exciting event is set to captivate sports fans in Germany – the World Cup of Darts. Taking place from June 27th to June 30th in Frankfurt, the PDC’s annual nations tournament will feature 40 countries vying for the coveted title.
Germany’s Formidable Duo
Among the dark horses for success is the host nation, Germany, who will be represented by the formidable duo of Martin Schindler and Gabriel Clemens. However, there has been a change in the German team dynamics, as Schindler, known as “The Wall,” has now surpassed Clemens as the country’s number one player.
Martin Schindler’s Impressive Form
Schindler, currently ranked 23rd in the world, has been in impressive form this year, winning the prestigious International Darts Open, one of the Euro Tour events. The 26-year-old is eagerly anticipating the start of the tournament, telling the PDC’s official website, “The World Cup is my home tournament, and I’m really excited to be back. The atmosphere in the Eissporthalle is always amazing, and I am looking forward to playing alongside Gabriel again.”
Schindler and Clemens’ Strong Rapport
Schindler and Clemens have a strong rapport, and the former is confident in their ability to perform under pressure. “Me and Gabriel get along very well, so we’re just going to play our own game and hopefully it’s enough to win the tournament,” Schindler explains. “Our spirit is there. We have the potential to fight back from any position, so I think we basically have everything. We just need to put it together when it matters.”
“I think the combination of football and darts would be a great story: Germany European football champion and Germany world champions in darts. You can dream,” Schindler concluded.
The road to the World Cup of Darts title will not be an easy one for the German duo, as they face the challenge of New Zealand’s Haupai Puha and Ben Robb, as well as Finland’s Teemu Harju and Marko Kantele, in the group stage. Nonetheless, with Schindler’s impressive form and the team’s unwavering determination, the hosts will be aiming to deliver a performance that will captivate the passionate darts enthusiasts in attendance.
