Darts Sensation Jonny ‘The Ferret’ Clayton Secures First Ranking Title of 2024
In a thrilling display of darts mastery, Jonny ‘The Ferret’ Clayton has captured his first ranking title of the year, defeating Wesley Plaisier 8-5 in the final of the fourteenth Players Championship tournament on Wednesday.
The all-action final showcased the exceptional talent of both players, with impressive averages over the 100 mark. Clayton was full of praise for his Dutch opponent, acknowledging Plaisier’s incredible skills, stating:
“Fair play to Wesley. How he hasn’t got a Tour Card, I’ll never know, because he can seriously play darts.”
For Clayton, this triumph marks a significant return to form, having struggled to capture a ranking title since his previous success last year. As he expressed with a smile:
“Confidence is low when you’re not picking up results, but I’ve got my mojo back. I was way off at the start of the year, but something has clicked. I played well yesterday and I played well today, so my consistency is there, and fingers crossed I can keep it going.”
With the prestigious World Matchplay just around the corner, Clayton is optimistic about his chances of going one step further this year, after his impressive performance in the tournament twelve months ago. As the eighth-seeded player admitted:
“It’s a great time to get your form back with the World Matchplay coming up. I’m eager to make my mark at the iconic Winter Gardens.”
Darts enthusiasts can look forward to the draw for the 2024 World Matchplay, which will be conducted on Thursday afternoon, July 4th, followed by the announcement of the playing schedule for the prestigious major tournament in Blackpool.
