Darts Sensation Luke Humphries Triumphs in Premier League Darts
On a thrilling night in Leeds, darts sensation Luke Humphries emerged victorious in the 15th week of the 2024 Premier League Darts campaign. The young Englishman, a passionate Leeds United fan, savored a hard-fought 6-5 triumph over the legendary Michael van Gerwen in the final, delighting the home crowd with a display of exceptional skill and poise.
“This was a dream for me tonight,” an elated Humphries reflected after the match. “The support was amazing, and to go on and win, this probably ranks as one of my best experiences in darts. The crowd were absolutely fantastic. When you walk out there and you’ve got so many people wanting you to win, it is what dreams are made of. It was an incredible feeling, and to perform like I did when the pressure was on, I’m really proud of that.”
With this nightly triumph, his fourth of the season so far, Humphries has narrowed the gap to league leader Luke Littler at the top of the Premier League Darts table. Despite their fierce on-court rivalry, stemming from their epic clash in the 2024 World Darts Championship final earlier this year, Humphries insists that there is no bad blood between the two young stars.
“I love him to be honest. I think Luke is fantastic,” Humphries explains. “I get on really well with him. A lot of media outlets paint a different picture but me and Luke Litter are fantastic friends. Every time we’re in the arena together we’ll have a little practice or have a little chat for 20 minutes and that’s just our thing. We are rivals, we want to beat each other but you’ll never get that negativity between us because we get on really well and that’s it.”
Humphries also had high praise for his opponent, stating, “He respects me and I respect him as a fantastic talent. The way he’s handled himself this year has been absolutely amazing and his family should be very proud of him.”
