Darts Superstar Peter Wright Faces Challenging Period in Illustrious Career
In a dramatic turn of events, renowned darts player Peter Wright is facing a challenging period in his illustrious career. Last year, the Scot still managed to secure a Euro Tour victory and the European Darts Championship title, but beyond these achievements, the former two-time world champion has had few highlights to boast about.
Delving deeper into his recent performances, Wright’s struggles have been particularly evident in the Premier League Darts competition. Over the course of the first fourteen rounds, the seasoned player has managed to secure only two wins, a far cry from his previous dominance.
During Thursday night’s Viaplay broadcast, analyst Vincent van der Voort, also known as ‘The Dutch Destroyer,’ provided his insights on Wright’s current form. Contrary to the suggestion that Wright’s equipment changes may be the root cause, Van der Voort dismissed this notion, stating, “He used to throw well with all kinds of sets everywhere. Now he just throws poorly with everything. So in itself nothing has changed, just his form is just not there.“
The Viaplay broadcast then presented a detailed rundown of the ten matches Wright completed in the month of April. The data revealed that ‘Snakebite’ managed to win only one of these ten encounters. Van der Voort elaborated on Wright’s woes, observing, “You see a lot of games where he’s 4-1, but the confidence is just lost. Then it’s very difficult to put games over the line. You see him in a lot of games where you think ‘hey, this is a nice start,’ but then it sinks very far after that and he starts missing things.“
As the darts community closely follows Wright’s journey, the former champion will undoubtedly be looking to regain his form and reclaim his position among the sport’s elite.
