Darts Enthusiasts Rejoice: World Masters Returns to the Spotlight in Budapest
The World Darts Federation (WDF) has announced the highly anticipated return of the World Masters tournament, set to take place from Wednesday, October 9th to Sunday, October 13th, 2023. After a year’s absence, the prestigious event will find a new home at the BOK Gerevich Aladár Nemzeti Sportcsarnok in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
The World Masters, previously organized by the British Darts Organization (BDO), has now fallen under the management of the WDF following the BDO’s withdrawal. This year’s edition promises to be an exciting affair, with the 2022 champions, Wesley Plaisier (men) and Beau Greaves (women), set to defend their titles.
The prize pool for the World Masters remains unchanged from two years ago, with the men’s champion receiving 10,000 Euros and the women’s champion earning 5,000 Euros. Only players invited by the WDF can participate in this tournament, with qualifications taking place through local and international events. Each player will pay a standard 10 Euro entry fee.
“Darts enthusiasts can look forward to an action-packed week in the Hungarian capital, as the best players from around the world compete for the coveted World Masters titles and secure their places in the WDF World Cup.”
Alongside the World Masters, the World Open tournament will also be held at the same venue, this year being upgraded to a ‘Gold’ status event. The winners of the World Open will automatically qualify for the upcoming WDF World Cup.
Additionally, a qualifying tournament for the WDF World Cup will take place in Budapest, providing opportunities for 4 men, 2 women, 4 boys, and 2 girls to earn a spot at the prestigious Lakeside event.
