Premier League Darts 2024: Four Dart Superstars Compete for the Prestigious Title
(London, May 23) – After sixteen weeks of thrilling competition, the eight best darters in the world have now narrowed down to the final four, who will compete for the coveted Premier League Darts title at the prestigious O2 Arena in London on Thursday night.
The four semifinalists are Michael van Gerwen, Luke Humphries, Michael Smith, and Luke Littler. Van Gerwen, the seven-time Premier League champion, is the only one among them to have previously won the title. Meanwhile, Littler and Humphries are making their Premier League debut this year, showcasing their immense talent by securing a spot in the playoffs.
The Semifinal Matchups
In the first semifinal matchup, 17-year-old sensation Luke Littler, who has dominated the competition with four weekly titles, will face off against former world champion Michael Smith. Despite Smith’s positive head-to-head record against Littler, the statistical advantage lies with the young “Nuke,” who boasts a higher tournament average, scoring average, and 180 scores compared to his more experienced opponent.
The second semifinal will pit the reigning world champion Luke Humphries against the legendary Michael van Gerwen. Humphries has been in impressive form, with a tournament average exceeding 100 and a recent streak of six consecutive wins over “Mighty Mike.” However, van Gerwen’s experience and pedigree as a seven-time Premier League champion make this a closely contested matchup.
“The winners of these semifinals will advance to the final, where the ultimate champion will be crowned and awarded a lucrative £275,000 prize. The semifinalists are already guaranteed at least £125,000, with the two losing semifinalists receiving £85,000 each.”
Darts enthusiasts can look forward to an evening of intense, world-class competition as these four dart superstars battle it out for the prestigious Premier League Darts title.
