Michael van Gerwen Cruises into European Darts Grand Prix Last Sixteen
The Dutch Darts sensation, Michael van Gerwen, has convincingly secured his spot in the last sixteen of the European Darts Grand Prix. The world-class player, affectionately known as ‘Mighty Mike’, overpowered Johan Engström with a commanding 6-1 victory in the second round.
Speaking after the match
“I had to do something good, I had some good finishing early doors and for me to win games is the most important thing for me. I’m not in the best form in my life but I’m always fighting my own battles. I never give up and I also want to give the crowd 100%. I’m pleased, I’m happy.”
The three-time European Darts Grand Prix champion, who won the prestigious title in 2016 and 2018, acknowledged the importance of remaining focused and not underestimating his opponent.
“I said to myself don’t underestimate anyone as I’ve known this guy for a long time. He’s played Darts for 18 years,” Van Gerwen explained.

In the last sixteen, Van Gerwen will face off against fellow Darts star, Jonny Clayton, on Sunday afternoon. Reflecting on the upcoming match, the Dutchman shared,
“Me and Jonny get on really well. We always have good games. For the crowd that’s coming, it’s fantastic to watch.”
