Michael Smith Climbs to Second in World Rankings After Players Championship Win
In the latest Order of Merit update, Michael “Bullyboy” Smith has risen to second place in the world rankings. Last Monday, Smith managed to secure the victory at the ninth Players Championship tournament of the season, solidifying his position among the elite of the darts world.
With an impressive £8,750 lead over third-place Michael van Gerwen, Smith has demonstrated his consistent excellence on the professional circuit. However, current world number one Luke Humphries maintains a near half-million-pound advantage, leaving Smith and Van Gerwen with ground to make up in the quest for the top spot.
Elsewhere in the Rankings
Jonny Clayton has returned to the top-10, replacing Damon Heta, who has dropped down to 11th place. Raymond van Barneveld also gained one spot, now occupying the 29th position previously held by Jose de Sousa. The Dutch contingent continues to make its mark, with Gian van Veen climbing three spots to 34th, inching closer to a debut in the top-32.
The Standout Mover of the Week
The standout mover of the week, however, is Jeffrey de Graaf, who reached the final of Players Championship 10 on Tuesday. De Graaf’s remarkable performance saw him surge 49 places in the world rankings, now sitting at 91st, just behind compatriots Berry van Peer (89th) and Danny van Trijp (90th).
As the darts season progresses, the jostling for position in the prestigious Order of Merit guarantees an exciting and unpredictable storyline for fans to follow.
