Darts Enthusiasts Eagerly Await Last Qualifiers for World Matchplay
Milton Keynes, UK – May 16, 2023
Darts fans are in for an exciting week as the final two Player Championship tournaments take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, serving as the last chance for players to secure their spots in the prestigious World Matchplay event in Blackpool.
The World Matchplay, a major tournament on the darts calendar, is set to commence on July 13th and run through the 21st. Defending champion Nathan Aspinall, who clinched the title last year with an emphatic 18-6 victory over Jonny Clayton, will be aiming to retain his crown.
While the field for the World Matchplay is largely in place, the last two starting spots are currently held by Andrew Gilding and Kevin Doets. James Wade, a consistent performer in the World Matchplay from 2006 to 2023, finds himself in a precarious position, trailing Doets by a mere £500. Gilding, however, holds a substantial £1,750 lead over Wade, leaving ‘The Machine’ in danger of missing out on this year’s tournament.
Aubergenius Aims for World Matchplay Spot
Dirk van Duijvenbode, known as ‘Aubergenius,’ also has his sights set on securing a spot in the World Matchplay. The Dutchman trails Doets by £3,500 and will need a semi-final finish in Milton Keynes to secure his place in the prestigious event.
“As the Darts world eagerly awaits the conclusion of the qualifying race, fans can follow the live darts scores and updates to stay informed on the latest developments. The 31st edition of the World Matchplay promises to be a thrilling showcase of the sport’s top talents, with the darts scores and live darts scores providing a captivating glimpse into the high-stakes competition.”
