In a captivating darts showdown at the Baltic Sea Darts Open, Gian van Veen emerged victorious, clinching a spot in the last 32 with a hard-fought 6-4 win over his German opponent, Kevin Troppmann.
Early Lead Challenged
Despite leading 4-1 early on, Van Veen found himself facing a determined Troppmann, who fought back to level the match at 4-4. “I was in front and I felt comfortable, even without playing well. I was 4-1 up like chilling, and all of a sudden it was four all,” Van Veen reflected.
“He played phenomenal. He took out the right shots at the right times, but luckily at four all I turned on and thankfully got the win.”
Facing Second-Seed Damon Heta
Now, the “GVV The Giant” will face off against second-seed Damon Heta in the second round. “I love to play him in Europe. Not in the UK,” Van Veen smiled, recalling his previous victories over Heta on the European Tour.
