Darts Delight: Dimitri van den Bergh Shines at European Darts Open
In the thrilling first round of the European Darts Open in Leverkusen, Belgium’s Dimitri van den Bergh, the “Dreammaker,” delivered a standout performance on Friday. The UK Open champion triumphed over Ryan Meikle with a resounding 6-1 victory, averaging an impressive 109.
Van den Bergh, who was already in top form after clinching another Players Championship title last week, continued to showcase his prowess on the oche. He swiftly grabbed the first four legs of the match before Meikle managed to get on the scoreboard in the fifth leg with a 121 finish.
“I know Ryan very well. He’s a great player, but I felt good tonight,” said the confident Van den Bergh, who now sets his sights on a clash with Dutch Darts Championship champion Josh Rock for a spot in the third round.
Compatriot Andy Baetens also secured a second-round berth at the European Darts Open, defeating Nathan Rafferty 6-5 in a closely contested affair. However, Baetens, known as “The Beast,” struggled on the doubles, needing 23 attempts to land the six doubles required for the win.
“I think I’d better start practicing on the doubles before Saturday afternoon,” he remarked after the match.
