Darts Enthusiast Dirk van Duijvenbode Secures Impressive Victory at European Darts Open
Leverkusen, Germany – In a thrilling display of dart expertise, Dirk van Duijvenbode has qualified for the last sixteen at the European Darts Open with a decisive 6-2 victory over Gerwyn Price. The tournament, held in Leverkusen, Germany, witnessed a grudge match as the Dutchman sought revenge on the Welshman, who had beaten him 8-7 in the final of this very event last year.
Van Duijvenbode, hailing from ‘s-Gravenzande, showcased his prowess on the oche, taking control of the match with an 11-darter and a 15-darter to seize the lead from Price, who had won two of the first three legs. The Dutchman then extended his advantage to 5-2 with a 17-darter and an 80 finish, before closing out the match with a 16-dart leg. Van Duijvenbode’s impressive performance was highlighted by his 102.58 average and a 67% checkout percentage.
“I’m really pleased with my performance today,” said Dirk van Duijvenbode. “Gerwyn is a tough opponent, but I was able to play my game and get the victory.”
Joining Van Duijvenbode in the last sixteen is fellow Dutchman Michael van Gerwen, who secured a 6-4 win over Ireland’s Dylan Slevin. Van Gerwen, the 35-year-old from Vlijmen, needed only a break in the first leg to topple his opponent, as Slevin failed to capitalize on his chances to rebreak in the second and sixth legs. Van Gerwen sealed the victory with a 78 finish in the tenth leg.
Meanwhile, Danny Noppert, known as ‘The Freeze’, was unable to reach the third round, falling 6-5 against Owen Bates. Noppert had been leading 5-3 and had the opportunity to start the final leg, but missed three match darts, eventually succumbing to Bates.
In a disappointing affair, the clash between Rob Cross and Michael Smith saw both players struggle, with averages of 85 and 89 respectively. ‘Bullyboy’ Smith emerged victorious with a 6-0 scoreline.
