Aubergenius Triumphs at Mannheim Darts Gala
Last weekend, Dirk van Duijvenbode, the “Aubergenius,” regained his confidence by winning the Mannheim Darts Gala. The Dutchman managed to defeat three former world champions in the process.
The event, organized by PDC Europe, featured six top darters who had received invitations to the demonstration tournament in Germany. The competition was structured in two groups of three players each, with Van Duijvenbode’s group including former world champion Michael Smith and Martin Schindler. The Dutchman emerged victorious in both of his group matches, while Schindler also proved too strong for Smith.
In the other group, Devon Petersen, Luke Humphries, and Gerwyn Price each won one match, but it was Humphries and Price who advanced to the semifinals based on leg difference.
“This victory marks a significant turnaround for Van Duijvenbode, who has now regained his confidence.”
Humphries secured his place in the final with a 4-1 win over Schindler, and Van Duijvenbode followed suit by eliminating Price with the same scoreline. In the championship match, Van Duijvenbode claimed the title by defeating reigning world champion Humphries 4-2.
PDC Europe is set to organize more darts galas in the coming months, with events scheduled in various German cities, including Saarbrücken, Passau, Trier, Göttingen, Halle, Lingen, and Köln, where top players from around the world will make guest appearances.
