WDF’s Stance on Transgender Participation in Women’s Darts Tournaments

WDF Confirms No Plans to Bar Transgender Individuals from Women’s Darts Tournaments

In a recent statement, the World Darts Federation (WDF) has confirmed that there are no plans to bar transgender individuals from participating in women’s darts tournaments. This comes amidst the ongoing discussion surrounding Noa-Lynn van Leuven’s involvement in the PDC Women’s Series events, which are not under the WDF’s jurisdiction.

    WDF’s Stance on Transgender Participation

The WDF’s position on this matter was established during a membership meeting held at last year’s WDF World Cup. A comprehensive report was prepared, taking into account existing research on strength and precision sports, as well as potential legal and human rights implications of any exclusionary policies. Ultimately, the WDF decided to continue allowing transgender participation until clearer scientific evidence emerges regarding any potential physical advantages.

According to the WDF, there is currently no significant or convincing scientific data that suggests a transgender person would have an unfair advantage in darts competitions.

    Guidelines for Transgender Participants

The WDF has outlined specific guidelines for transgender individuals wishing to compete:

    • Male-to-female (MTF) transgendered persons must provide documentation from a medical professional indicating that their gender reassignment process has been ongoing for at least one year.
    • Female-to-male (FTM) transgendered persons must submit documentation of an ongoing gender reassignment process.
    • All transgender participants in WDF events will be required to present an official government-issued ID that reflects their current gender.
    • These athletes, coaches, and officials will be subject to the WDF’s Anti-Doping Policy, with testing conducted in accordance with the gender provided during registration or declaration.

Commitment to Inclusivity and Fair Competition

The WDF’s statement underscores the federation’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for darts enthusiasts, while also ensuring fair competition and upholding the integrity of the sport. As the scientific understanding of the potential impacts of transgender participation continues to evolve, the WDF has pledged to review any new evidence and engage in broader discussions with legal representatives and other regulatory bodies to inform their policies.
